Many thanks to Angela from the Machine Knitters Association of Victoria for the inspiration and for actually KNITTING the jumbo yarn for us.
On the birthday day, I was "special guest" at school aftercare, with a bundle of yarny crafts and the jumbo yarn. The kids loved being a human knitting machine and the carers loved having all the kids tied up engaged.
Today was the party day. My plans for a low-key, set-the-kids-loose-in-a-park idea was relocated and reformatted when rain was predicted for this morning. Plan B was my studio and craft activities..... ...and a human Knitting Nancy.
I'm not sure what the kids thought of it all. Some were totally into it and others didn't seem to get it at all.
There were whispers amongst the adults about leaving the kids there and going for coffee.....
We didn't. We stayed and had fabulous cake. But that deserves a blog post of its own (and I'm too exhausted to post it just now).

awww how cute :)
That looks like SO much fun!!!
Now THAT'S a party I'm sorry I misses. Though if I'd been about, there would have been a possible involvement of Stringing Up In Trees.
Happy Birthday wee girl. Looks like lots of fun was had!
Yes the rain was a wash out yesterday. Lucky you have the studio. Happy Birthday. You have officially survived 6 years and I think parents should get a few presents too for that feat.
That's brilliant! Happy birthday to your little one. So glad I'm getting a grandchild soon - all those fabulous kids' things I can create/participate in again!
I totally love this post. The colours are awesome and it looks like the kids had so much fun. How cool is that.
I have found the answer to my question of what to do with the kids while I sew!
What a fabulous idea!
I love totally hands on projects with kids, funny how an idea like this can seem scary but in reality the children's interest just drives the presentation. Thanks for sharing!
Penny.
