Today, I reminded myself of someone I once knew, who'd read a bit of Ibsen and Chekov and fancied he could write a play..... 
I was hoping for some sort of divine gift to descend upon me, enabling me to throw about a few scraps and turn it all into an amazing design that blended surprising mixes of colour and print. Hoping that I'd somehow channel a bit of Annie's talent.... but it wasn't to be.It was all a bit simple and safe.
And small. And wonky.There'll be no quilt top here.
The project is bag-related.... but I felt like a fraud, plastering these hacked-together bits on the front of a bag when there are so many talented quilters around. So, just in case anyone looks too closely at my handiwork, I've embroidered (and I use the term loosely) a little message....
This quilting lark is completely foreign to me and I can safely say that I am not a natural quilter. I think I'll leave it to the experts and concentrate my "learning" energies on the yarny stuff.

Patchwork and quilting is always open to interpretation, and these days there seems to be no 'right' or 'wrong' way to go about it. So long as you enjoy the experience and make it your own that's all that matters!

Isn't it funny how some things are easier than they look, and other things look easier than they actually are.
I do think that if you give it time, and practise a little, then it is something that you will be really good at. Just maybe it isn't "quilting season" for you yet.
I'm with you on leaving some things to the experts, (like, er, bag making) but what's not to love about quilty STRIPS?

I adore that embroidery. A friend of mine runs a big quilt show and she is a national judge too. I'd love to see her face if a quilt came in with that on it! Would make her day I'd bet.
New? Yes, ok. I seem to recall you were new at knitting LAST YEAR. So I'm not imagining it'll take you very long to get quilting.

It may not have come out as you pictured it, but as I don't know how that was it looks pretty great to me.
You have a really lovely subtle eye for colour and pattern. Keep going. Love the embroidery too. I'd keep doing that as well!

The other week a friend was showing me the gorgeous quilt blocks she was making in an evening class. She said I'd have no trouble making them. I laughed! Like Elizabeth Bennet, unwilling to open her mouth unless she can say something that will amaze the whole room, I seem to be unwilling to try any craft that I can't be a star at straight away.
It wasn't to bad, you just have to remember patchwork is all about value. If all the value of the pieces are the same they blend. All patchworkers have a few wonky blocks.
After 12 years of quiltmaking I am moving on to.....bag making. Here we go....
You are entirely too hard on yourself, you've done lovely and should continue your quilting endeavors. Your piecing is exceptionally well done for a beginner which means it will only get better and the embroidery is very cute. Unless you are just trying to nicely say you hated the whole process, keep going!
Yeah for have a go, and I think btw it looks pretty fab with that message.
