On the yarny front, I just have to weave in some ends on this Country Kiddies top and I can send it to a special baby girl. I know I could have been a bit fussier with some seriously dodgey stitches, but I figure she'll only get a few months wear out of it anyway. 'Twas more about the journey.
I'm having a re-think on the knitting vs crochet option for this varigated cotton yarn. In super-bright colours, I didn't like the way that the colour broke up - but that's because I only saw it do what it's doing around the neckline of this top. I like what it does around the body on this top, and I think that effect would look great in brights. Hmmm..... food for thought.I've also been snatching moments to study up on new (to me) techniques in this book. I'm determined to expand my knitting repertoire (to include things for ME!)

To see the bloggy round-up of creative spaces, pop on over to visit Kirsty. She's the lady with the list!

I used to do a provisional cast on like that then my sister showed me how to do a very similar one where you create the crochet chain over the knitting needle, so it's done in one step rather than two, it's less fiddly I think. Check out Lucy Neatby's video tutorial here. I met Lucy at UK Knit camp last year, she's an awesome teacher (and lovely person too).
Well, that yarn looks gorgeous knitted up in that top.
Love the baby's top. She will look gorgeous in it. Can't wait to see what you knit in your size.
I love silk too. Was working up a drool just looking at the photo!
The book is amazing, I am knitting my second sweater with this technique. I think that I will never be knitting form the bottom up again!
I can't knit a scarf ! I love seeing what beautiful things others can make .
Yarn is amazing stuff!
Timesink Alert:
the pooling/flashing good/bad thread on Ravelry :)

I sometimes click the link for only posts with images, and just scroll, scroll, scroll. I find it helpful for 1) helping develop ideas for ways to use yarn - or not, 2) dealing with insomnia, 3) general avoidance of actual work.
Who knew there were so many ways of casting on and off! Being a member of Ravelry over the last couple of years has made a huge impact on my knitting knowledge (until then everything was knitted in 8 ply on 4mm needles, despite what the pattern said!).
The little top is so sweet. :-)
