But yesterday I got the sewing gear out.....
It took most of the afternoon to set myself up to re-shoot a great big chunk of how-to photos for the book. It included a revamp of the ironing board (...and a frantic call to the sewing buddy to end my 45-minute search for elastic!) and a lot of searching through boxes and running between upstairs and downstairs.
There was an almost-panic when I couldn't find the red-and-pink-checked-fabric. Panic averted when I checked the scrap box (who says that hoarding is a bad thing?).
And so... I still have that to-do list of re-making and re-shooting to do....
But I also still have the rush of kid-anticipating-a-party excitement that has kept me bitten by this sewing bug for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure which is the strongest drug... the possibilities for a new project, the sensual delights of new textures, colours and design...the satisfaction gained from making something, or simply the zone.....the headspace where I feel like I'm right where I belong.
I think it's all of the above.

Gorgeous post Nikki!
I just love that last para.
I hope so much that there's a bit of zone sewing for us both today. X
First photo - I bought a piece of that striped rose fabric from GJs for lining a Nicole M bag. Haven't had time to start the bag yet, but some day!
That last paragraph really struck a cord. I love being in the 'sewing zone', but lately my sewing machine has been idle too. Knitting is great but sewing is best!
Here's hoping for some shiny weather soon!
Got in the zone myself today. just an hour and a half but I was a machine. Great post
I'm in the same boat. Can't wait to see what you are sewing. What a shame life gets in the way. I hope we both getting some good sewing time soon.
well you hadn't lost 'it', you'd just packed 'it' in a box!
Me, not been able to sew for.... weeks at the moment I think. Bah. Got my knitting, but I miss sewing.
And to add insult to injury 3 parcels of fabric from the US have arrived in the last 3 days!
Tesco can't make it round with the groceries because of the snow, but the postie can still carry my fabric. Weird world.
I SEW know what you mean!! I am also a hoarder too and it's great when you pull out a piece of fabric you bought 3 years ago and it's perfect for what you are about to do!
It's been too long since I sewed too! Just got my machine (have my grandma's old cabinet one - very heavy!) moved upstairs last night, so now I can have it set up next to my little ironing table - very excited to not have to run back and forth and to have some more space as well! Now Christmas preparations will interfere with sewing time though. :(
