On My Desk

I spent most of my day marking my Millinery students assignments. Couldn't see my cutting table for HAT BOXES until late afternoon. This was my last TAFE (college) class... it's a job I've had since I was making hats, but it's proved difficult to squeeze in lately. I handed in my notice a few weeks ago.

I had a little bit of the day left to finish this bag.... which was cut out about ten weeks ago. It was top of the pile of UFO's on the cutting table.

...With all that rummaging through half-made bag bits on the cutting table I FOUND MY SCISSORS!!!! For the last month or so I've whinged about losing them to anyone who'll listen. I thought I'd lost them in a classroom (which means "goodbye scissors").
I have OTHER scissors, but these are special. The greyish ones are what I call my "green scissors". That's what they were when I was a teenager and they were my fabric scissors. A few months into my Fashion degree (and a few too many experimental design classes where I was cutting rubber, wire, cardboard and paper) they were converted to "paper scissors", and that's what they've been for the last 21 years. They've traveled the world with me and I'm ridiculously sentimental about them. They're also fantastic paper scissors.

The red ones are the pair I bought last year to replace the other scissors that I'd ALSO had in college and taken with me overeas. I left those ones in a classroom.

Gosh - lots of new ON MY DESK players over at Kirsty's blog...

I am in desperate need of some good sewing scissors! Somehow was missed from my package of sewing goodies and I never remember to buy them when I'm out. I guess I have scissor envy...?!

Oh I love my scissors too - The little sharp ones and the big ones and the paper ones and the really old ones that cut through anything....gee Maybe we need a week of scissors!

I don't know what it is about scissors! You can never have too many pairs... and somehow they always go missing. Oh and it's never the dodgy ones that go missing... the ones that the blades don't quite meet, or the ones that are dented (from cutting wire etc... hmmmm!) Oh NO! The ones that go missing are invariably the faves!
Glad they found their way back to you.

Glad you found your trusty oldies. I still have my mother's pinking shears, even tho I don't sew and they are now dull as dirt. But I've always had them and well...you know.

I too love my scissors. I got them at college. I have my fabric scissors, paper scissors and my thread clippers. All have survived twentysomething years and several moves and are now surviving in a household of growing girls.
The fabric scissors are always referred to as the "GOOD: scissors.

Ok, I'm a little slow to get to this but OH I know how you feel about the scissors. I recently found my embroidery scissors that had been lost for about a year! They were wrapped up in a bag that I was hand sewing and had taken with me to an appointment to work on while I waited... Somehow between the appointment and using the scissors next, I forgot that I'd taken them. I always thought they were under the bed.
