News to me.. and to you.

I was about to give up on the new "DONE BUT WITH ERRORS ON PAGE" version of Internet Explorer (in fact, I still might...). Too many things that are supposed to scroll, roll and appear simply don't.... until you click this little button....


Apparently it's the "compatability view" button. I had no idea it existed... did you?

One little click and things magically work again! ....Sometimes. (I still can't get the Amazon "look inside" reader thingamy to work... which could be seen as a good thing for my visa card, but is slightly annoying because it worked perfectly on the old version of Explorer).


SO... I'm thinking of changing things here. If you have any hot tips for what I should be changing to, I'd love to to hear what browser you use for the internet.. and why...?


Anyway - the news to you is that the winner of the September "Spend over $50" draw prize was Gillian H in Canberra. She won a $20 voucher to spend in our squeaky-clean and nearly finished shopping cart website. (There are virtual "wet paint" signs and stepladders everywhere, but that's part of the charm, hey Gillian?). We drew the prize and told Gillian but I forgot to mention it here (sorry!).


Which brings me to this months draw prize.... If you spend over $50 in the month of October, your invoice number will go into the random number generator and you could win some haberdashery or gadgets. You can choose two from this list...

Clover yo-yo maker, Clover seam ripper...Clover iron-on transfer pencil, Clover white marker Pen...


Rajah cloth, air-soluble marker pen...

Saddlers punch or a packet of each of the sewing machine needles (two packets as one choice). And I'll throw in a little surprise something-or-other on top of that.


And the new shopping cart is close... very close... to completion. Yay.

    My other half got a MacBook last year and we were introduced to their browser: Safari. It is so good compared to anything else we've used, that I now have it on my laptop (not a Mac) too. It's free to download and worth a try out.

    I've about had it with IE too, I don't understand why it can't push it's own button if it knows there are errors on the page....?!! It's like it thinks it's too good for the internet or something?

    I'm really excited about your shopping cart, I'll be racing up and down your aisles putting things in and taking them out - yay! Does it have a wish list?

    i use safari with my windows XP self. The only 'snag' i've run into is that when people try to talk to me on facebook chat I get an error message every time they send a message. But I don't like chatting on facebook chat anyways, so i just tell them i can't cos when i get a message from them i get error messages like crazy! mwahahaha.
    My sil tried safari and now uses Firefox. Possibly related to the facebook thing.

    I've been using Firefox for years and never had any problems with it. It has a great help page, tutorials, add-ons and works well on all operating systems. We only use IE at work and I get so frustrated with it.

    I use Safari on my iphone and I like it, too.

    I've been using it for a couple of years on recommendation from a friend. It's easy to use and is oodles less frustrating than b****y Explorer.

    I had no idea there was a compatibility button either, but since changing to Firefox, I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

    Firefox!!!!!!!!!!! Keeps the tabs open when it shuts down so you're right back where you started. So much faster than !E. All sorts of add ons (like weather, pop up blockers, etc...)

    p.s. All the cool kids use firefox!

    Firefox! Of the software developer guys I sometimes work with recommend Safari.

    Why Firefox? The main reason is that it is standards based. So when developers write code that adheres to standards, things work properly. Unlike IE which does what it wants and is a nightmare to develop anything for.

    Oppps, will get off my soapbox now.

    PS, did I tell you how much I love my saddlers punch?!

    Firefox or Google Chrome. I've used both, and neither have half the issues IE does. They're both far more secure and crash far less frequently.

    Firefox is open source - so anyone can fix it, unlike Microsoft.

    I am a firefox convert for a while now - love it! Is alot easier to use FTP as well (if you are so inclined) and anything free that competes with Microsoft and kicks it's arse i am happy with!

    I think I'm sold on the Firefox idea. Have installed it and am getting used to it.

    One thing I don't like.... my blog font looks different.

    Ho hum. At least things scroll and appear now.

    Font looks different how? Different as in smaller in firefox? If that's what you mean, in firefox click View in the tool bar, select Zoom, then select Zoom in, or use the Zoom Text only option.

    Is that what you meant?

    Firefox is the winner really, Google Chrome is ok but it is memory hungry so it may slow down some of your other programs running at the same time. you can also get Firefox portable which is a smaller version of normal Firefox. I have used both and am happy with either. As CandieFabrics said, when you close the program, next time it pulls all your windows/tabs back up just as you left them. Very essential in my busy house when it can take days or weeks to get back to something!! Good luck with it, any questions just drop us a line.

    With regard to your font size changing. I had the same problem when I was setting up my website, so I have just had a look at the source code for your blog (View-PageSource or Control-U) and your font sizes are all in percentages (%). This may make a difference. My website has the same size font in both browsers because I have set the font-size (e.g. 30px) but in IE it is darker. So IE is doing something different, but you should be able to get them to look the same size in both by leaving less to IE to interpret! Although this way you can check what your visitors are seeing using their browsers!!

    I used to use Explorer, even though I have a mac. I also found Safari isn't always compatible with some pages, but it's been a few years since I have used it exclusively. I switched to Firefox, and I don't think I will be changing. Firefox works great, and I have never had a problem. I can't remember why I switched originally, but I am glad I did.
