That Baggy Pursey Thingamy-whatsit....

Ah yes, folks... the saga continues. We're getting closer to having a finished pattern but still have no name for this one.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions (and I'm sorry that personal responses to comments are very few and far between in these last frantic days before the Stitches and Craft Show). There were some great ideas and I really appreciate the time you put into offering them up.
I have a shortlist of snappy names - but may need a bit MORE help to choose the winner...
Is it a Kiss purse?

A Party purse?

A Date purse?
A Jazz purse?

Or.... ummmm...a Pop purse?
...Or a Poppet?

I'm waiting to hear the lowdown (and adjust the pattern accordingly) as my trusty team of pattern testers sew up a storm this weekend. We're racing the clock.

Edited to add: We have a winner! The pattern is ready to go... unfortunately my computer isn't. I shall do the big announcement at the next available opportunity. In the meantime, thanks for playing.... and we don't need any more name suggestions!

  1. Ooh, it is totally a Poppet purse (with Pop as a second choice)!

So sad to hear about your fabulous Fedora going walkabout (if I'm using that concept correctly)... any news on its return?

  2. Oh POPPET that is is - better than the others.

  3. 1) Snap Bag
    2) Perfect Purse
    3) Potter Purse (you potter about when you make it!)

  4. I think it's a Date purse. But, possibly a Poppet.

  5. A Princess purse that what it is. Definitely good enough and large enough for one to carry those royal necessities.

  6. I say Date Purse, if only because Poppet is my second choice and Poppet has a creepy old gross pirate man sneering "ello, Poppet" in my head a la Pirates of the Carribean... ;)

  7. oooh if the gross old snearing pirate is johnny Depp he can call me poppet any time....

    um, sorry I like poppet

  8. Pop or Date for me! -- Poppet didn't spring to mind pirates for me, instead I thought of children's things. Regardless of what you call it, I'm certain this one will be a winner. Can't wait to pick one up at Stitches&Craft

  9. Date Purse really stands out for me. Makes me think of when magazines show you how to do 'big date hair'. Something for a special occasion when you want to make a huge impact.

  10. I like the sound of Poppit too but date purse may give a better idea of it's usefulness. Cherrie

  11. Some great names - I vote for Jazz (but I could be a tad biased!!) with Pop as my second choice.

  12. I'm totally with Poppet, even with the Pirate - Date makes me think of date rape (sorry) I'm onto it, back to sewing now!!

  13. How about the "Anything Goes" bag (as in the song), because it goes anywhere and is suitable for anything. Have fun in Sydney.

  14. I vote for Poppet. I like the name Jazz, you should save that for something else though, with the ZZs in it, I think of more of an angular sort of shape. Yep, go with Poppet.

  15. Personally, I'm never going to be able to look at these bags and NOT call them a Baggy Pursey Thingamy Whatsit (or BPTW).

If you really apply the thumb screws, I'm voting 'Pop'. I refer to my kids as 'Poppets' and there isn't any snotty kid tissue going into this purse, so no vote there.

Not 'Date' either. That makes me think evening soirees only. I would like to kid myself that I can be glamourous any time of the day or night (ahem) and not just with a someone on my arm.

  16. I'm back. I had a shower. In the three minutes of shower time I was randomly pondering a work project, what the hell to do for the Quilt Project, a next blog post and the naming of your lovely BPTW. The results of that creative thinking shower, were unsurprisingly all over the shop. However...

For me, the BPTW, most particularly it's shape, represents a modern day version of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. And Audrey was as chic as they come. For that reason, I can't go beyond ideas that are completely off brief:
    • Golightly
    • Hepburn

There were more. However, I prefer to maintain some vestige of thinking dignity.

  17. Well, er um, seeing as how "Poppet" was my idea, of course I shall have to vote for Poppet!!!

  18. Poppet or Poppy, pop could be called "pop-off" by the kids!!! And you don't want that.
Have an awesome time in Sydney, wish I could come for a day, just to absorb the atmosphere. Can't wait to hear the adventures when you get back

  20. Poppet or Pop gets my vote. Can't wait to try this one.

  21. I really like the name date purse! Or snappy date purse. Poppet is also cute. It is a gorgeous bag!

  22. I'm with most of them, a poppet. love it.

  23. Another vote here for Poppet purse

  24. I think "Pop Purse" really works-- It has the feeling of teh sound of opening the purse, the idea that you can just "pop" your essentials into it, and the freedom of "popping" down the street for a coffee, or out for some rack slapping. Just call it the "Pop Purse"

  29. Just go with your original idea of Pop - I think. Although... I also think you said you wanted something "classy" and I don't know that any of the names suggest a high fallutin' shindig married with the practicalities of such a bag.

    What about "soirée"? Tres pretentious?

Don't envy you decision makers, not one bit...

  30. It's a "Quick Kit Clutch"..This one is for going out to play OR it is a wee make up purse. Peta

  31. Here is one more vote for POPPET.

  32. You know...sometimes the first idea is the best..really think that POP PURSE is the best choice..catchy , snappy and memorable...

  33. I thought Kiss Purse until I got to Poppet. Poppet is really perfect - for a little pocket book that pops...

    ReplyDelete
  34. What about a Coco purse - little bit of Pop, little bit of Chanel?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Poppet is something you do to a zit.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd go with poppet - wouldn't buy some of the other names AT ALL - but a poppet purse would be just perfect.

  37. I can't stand 'Poppet'. It sounds too old fashioned. 'POP' is a good choice. An even bigger NO to date and party. Jazz is good but that's what I call my cousin Jasmine.
    Good luck.

  38. I think I like Pop the best, followed by Poppet.

  39. I think Poppy sounds lovely, or Pop. Good luck picking!

I LOVE to read your comments and they brighten my day. I can't respond unless your profile has an email address attached, though... And some days I simply don't have time to respond.... but I respond in a telepathic sort of way to each and every comment.
