Can't talk...

This week has been a bit crazy. I'm exhausted, but not as exhausted as these lovely gals must be....

Amy, Shannon and Elissa have been at the Craft and Quilt Fair all day for the last few days (unlike me - who just flutters in, fluffs up my pattern stock and leaves) at the Kelani Fabric Obsession stand.

If you're in or near Melbourne and you haven't been to the Craft and Quilt Fair then you have two days left in which to do so. Go and say hello to the girls and just try to escape without being tempted by the ABSOLUTELY STUNNING fabrics that Kelani stock. I bet you can't! Hey, you can even pick up some of my patterns there (including the new Barrel Purse Kit).

Oh - and if you see anyone wearing this hat (I mean ever in your life) grab it from them and send it back to me. Someone stole it from my display early on the first day of the show. Not only have I lost my favourite hat (and have no more of that fabric to make a new one) but it's affected sales of the Fedora pattern at the show (no sample usually means no sales at a show... but I'm not putting another one up there to be taken!). I'll also have to make a new sample for Stitches and Craft in Sydney - like I don't have enough to do already.

Did I mention that I've kind of lost my sense of humour? And I've definitely lost all power of words or wit. And quite possibly a bit of faith in humanity.

  1. Hi Nikki,
ON behalf of people who go to those shows (not this time) I am also annoyed for you. Gosh, how crap that you can't leave your beautiful sample there for us all to view without it getting flogged. I am shaking my head. I like to think of the crafty generosity that flows out there rather than petty theft. I hope they wear it loud and proud and get totally sprung.
Hmmm, lets hope it got accidently caought up in someones purchases (you need to have hope even if totally unbelievable!!) and will be returned to you by the end of show.
Most people are good and kind and generous. Surely??

  2. Ohhhhhh Nooooooo!
That's my favourite fabric and my favourite hat for staring at and daydreaming.
Why on earth would someone steal at a craft show? Some people just have no sense of right and wrong... and that is very very wrong.

  3. Ouch. That there is a whole bad bit of karma sitting on someone's head.

  4. May their head be riddled with nits...repeatedly and constantly !

  5. Do you envisage that it was some nanna or some brunswick street beauty that stole it? Interesting images!

Such a shame that someone would steal something like that. I will wrestle them to the ground if I see it!

  6. I can't believe someone stole you hat (which was stunning by the way). Good luck with getting organised for Sydney, panic has well and truly set in here!

  7. ohhh no Nikki!
not all of humanity deserves to lose your faith though. Just wait for Karma to do it's job. Goodluck with Sydney preparations

  10. Karma will come and bite them on the bottom!

  11. Ok, now I know I asked if I could buy this hat.... But I promise I wasn't the one who pilfered it!!!! May they have forever bad hat hair and bad luck every time they wear it!!! How rude!!!!!!!!

  12. Well, that just stinks. I'm so sorry to hear that your gorgeous Fedora was taken from your display, Nikki. I promise that if it makes it's way to my part of the world, I lay hold of it to send it back to its rightful owner.

    Sending you hugs.

  13. So sorry that someone had to ruin it so early in the piece. Can you try and take it as a compliment that what you did was that gorgeous? - No I didn't think so, just trying to find a positive. Good luck with ALL your preperations you have on the go

  14. Oh Nikki, sorry to hear it. I'll be crash-tackling anyone I see wearing a hat that looks even vaguely like your beautiful fedora. It IS highly recognisable, hopefully the person will eventually be noticed in it for the WRONG reasons.

  15. I'll be having strong words if I ever see it Nikki - eyes peeled for you. What scoundrels eh.

  16. That really sucks - I'm on the lookout!

  17. That one was my favourite too. I'd recognise it anywhere. On the lookout.

  18. No good can ever come to someone who steals other people's art or craft. What an awful thing. I hope your keen sense of humour and happy outlook are back soon.

  19. How disappointing for you!
I try to work on the philosophy that for every person who would do this, there are many more who wouldn't dream of it.
Hope the rest of the show is more positive for you, I'm sad I couldn't get there this year!

  20. So sorry to hear about the theft of your beautiful hat. Hope your faith in mankind is restored soon. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way. Good luck with the Sydney preparations.

  21. Wow. Unbelievable. Nope, can't understand it at all, but I am very sorry that your beautiful hat was taken.

  22. May their hair fall out in clumps!

The stories I hear about theft from craft shows is scary indeed!

I can guarantee you at least one sale of the Fedora pattern in Sydney, though Nikki. I am DYING to make myself a dozen of them for my every mood!

  23. What sort of person does stuff like that ?!?!?!

    I mean really !!!!

Karma will be around shortly I am sure !

  24. That stinks! When you create something you put part of yourself in it. To then have it stolen is akin to stealing part of you.

On a brighter note your post prompted me to take my 12yo daughter to the show today. (I didn't even realise it was on). We both had a nice day, so thanks.

  25. so sorry about the despicable thievery!

someone stole an entire portfolio of my photographs in 1989 and i'm still keeping an eye out in galleries and exhibitions. i hope when i find the wretched thief, s/he is wearing your hat!!! (hell to pay...)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow! Some people are so brazen. But do they have the courage to actually wear it? Me thinks not.
Hope you find the time to get another one made.
At least we all know what it looks like if ever it turns up somewhere.
I don't think I'd even remember the details of the brooch that was nicked from Stitches and Craft!

  27. ohh Nikki - I'm sure the words and wit will return. That's just shit. Perhaps Karma can be something you can place your faith in until the not so rude humans prove they deserve it. (are you keeping an eye on ebay etc just in case??)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh pooooh Nikki! Never fear, I have no doubt that if any of your readers see this hat on anyones head (other than yours!) it will be whipped off in a second and returned to its rightful owner. Pooh, pooh, pooh. So sorry to hear that. XXOO

  29. They should be ashamed... but then I am guessing they aren't given that they did it in the first place! But they SHOULD be. Not cool. Not cool at all.
I was there too and even bought some fabric from the stall. Saw your patterns there and there was a huge crowd of people crowded around. Hope it was a huge success.
    Cheers to you Nikki.

  30. My grandchildren would say "that sucks"! I'm a firm believer in "what goes around, comes around"..the thief will get just what they deserve...somewhere, someday! Hope the remainder of the show was good for you and don't lose faith - "they" are not worth it.

  31. oh no, that really stinks! I am so sorry about that! Here's hoping something positive comes your way soon!!

  32. on a positive note wanted to say what a great stand you were on, probably the best there and your area looked great and I noticed the barrel purse. congrats

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, who does that?!

I suppose they are thieves with taste, but that doesn't really make you feel any better, or make it any less wrong of them.

Don't lose your faith in humanity - remember that for every horrible thief there are hundreds of people who wouldn't dream of being so low and who love all the wonderful things you do.

Oh, I finished the baguette bag the other day - it looks great!

  34. Dear Nikki, so sorry to read about the theft of your beautiful hat. Stealing is a shameful act...pathetic person who did it, I hope the hat is returned to you or somebody finds it. Karma will get the person back....

    ReplyDelete
  35. A terrible thing to happen.. Look at it htis way, they'll never be able to wear it out in public cos there are too many of us who will recognise it. Boy will they get some grief if it's ever spotted !!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I remember seeing your hat at the Kelani stand on Thursday - it was stunning and I don't know how anyone could be so low! I did notice that the samples of the little purses on a tree stand where tied up - which I thought was a very smart move! You have many bloggy friends out there who will keep an eye open for you - good luck and don't let some knob get you down!

  37. It is very disappointing to think that someone could steal your work. Don't let these horrid hiccups put you off, there are loads of people out there who are inspired by you (and obviously one jealous one!). The stealthy hat thief better not wear it out in public as I fear they will be crashtackled to the footpath and relieved of said hat. Hopefully you will get it back but dont dont dont let it stop you. We need your style and colour and talent. Fiona

I LOVE to read your comments and they brighten my day. I can't respond unless your profile has an email address attached, though... And some days I simply don't have time to respond.... but I respond in a telepathic sort of way to each and every comment.
