I've spent the last few days zooming in and out of lines, measuring lines, checking lines.... seeing lines in my sleep.... adding notches, size labels, text...
The new All Seasons Coat will soon be available as the Tween Seasons Coat - Sizes 8-14 for girls.
I feel a bit proud of the line drawings I constructed using my patternmaking software.... they're only tiny on the pattern instructions so I have to put them up here to show them off a bit more. They show the swing styles with the variations of belt and hood.
With a bit of testing and tweaking ahead of me, there's time to organise a quick giveaway.
If you'd like to win yourself a copy of either the All Seasons Coat or the Tween Seasons Coat, leave a message in the comment box, mentioning which size you'd like to win and which variation you'd make first. I'll draw a winner when the pattern is released.... hopefully in a week or so.
We had a great Zippers for Bags class on Saturday.
I'm not sure what these girls had for breakfast, but they ZOOMED through the techniques and made lots of zippered bag components.... more than I've seen any other time I've taught this class.
I've since seen evidence of finished multi-zippered bags and had some lovely emails. Thanks girls - 'twas a pleasure! My next Zippers for Bags class is at Addicted to Fabric in Canberra on 21st September (and a Hats workshop is on the 22nd September).
I'm also teaching a hats class here in Northcote on 7th September. There's one place left on that one.
I'm looking forward to sewing up the new Tween Seasons Coats... I'm hoping that the largest size will be big enough to fit me (I may have mentioned before, that there's an up-side to being the size of the average 12-year-old...).
This design is so gorgeous! I'd love to win the pattern for the Tween Seasons Coat, and I'd make the version with the belt and collar. My little princess turned seven on the weekend but she's already wearing size eight clothes, and she's just learned to tie her own bows, so the belt would provide a perfect opportunity for practice.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you've made a bigger version. My Annabelle's nine, and I think she'd like a belt and hood.
ReplyDeleteThis coat is marvelous and I'd love to win the Tween size for my very tall 6 year old. I'm a total devotee to your patterns and really appreciate how much work you put into them to make them easy to follow no matter how complex the sewing. I also love how you teach new techniques with each one. Can't wait to try this one out.
ReplyDeleteI love the All Seasons Coat design, great job as usual Nicki. I'd love to make it with the hood and belt for my friends little girls. Next we need a grown up size for all of us older girls.
ReplyDeleteI'd sew a sz 12 (belted & collared) version.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower on Bloglovin & Twitter. This is such a great coat. A few months back I wanted to make a Raglan-sleeved coat for my daughter and couldn't find a modern sewing pattern anywhere. Congratulations on designing such a great style. I would love to have the Tween Seasons Coat :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd need the tween size and I'd do a swing version first. Will be first in line to get pattern when it's released squid needs a new jacket and of course the shops already have their summer gear in stock
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable coat! I would be making the smaller range. With (AWK) almost 6 grandchildren 3 and under I am swimming in the need to keep up with their hearts desires. "Oma can make me that!" is their constant refrain!
ReplyDeleteOOOh, love the tech side of pattern making and to see it all ona screen with CAD - excellent! I need to explore this in my work!
ReplyDeleteLove the'global' lining in the bag too!
I would lurve to win the All Seasons pattern. I'd make it without a hood, because my nearly-3yo is obsessed with her beanies.
ReplyDeleteI'm surrounded by little girl toddlers at the moment so that would be my pick. I love the swing style both hooded and collared. I have tons of great corduroy that would be perfecto for this pattern with a funky lining. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us try to win one.

Love the hooded swing style jacket! Would love to sew the smaller sizes for a few special little girls!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be that size and would most definitely wear it.
ReplyDeleteI love coats on girls, and this is exactly the sort of style I like. I would love to make the swing coat without the hood using the Tween Coat pattern.
ReplyDeleteEek! My size 4 girlie would love me to make her a hooded jacket!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you! My daughter wants the hooded version. I'll probably look for some of that prints charming cord to make it from. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteooohhh so excited to see the tween version (my daughter is 6, but already wearing size 8), She'd love the swing version with a hood :)

I would love to try the tween pattern. Definitely the non hood with belt version first, how cute!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to see that you have been nudged into creating the Tween size of this gorgeous coat. I would be aiming to make a size 12 - trench coat style with collar and belt, but probably would embellish it with some machine embroidery along the cuffs and hemline. (Now if you were to run this as a class at A2F you would be booked out in a flash!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the pattern Nikki as its so hard to find a good quality coat for tween sizes that has some classic style. I would make up a size 8 with the hood. Perfect for Ballarat and Maya
ReplyDeleteAsk and ye shall receive - gotta love that!
ReplyDeleteYou are ACE!
The tween jacket is now on my wish list!!! Can't wait.
Thanks xxx
I didn't ask for it, but I'm happy others did! I didn't think of it! Great plan- my girl would wear this, I reckon. The bigger size, I'd make the one in the bottom right of the picture first.
ReplyDeleteLove the patterns Nikki. I would like the All-Seasons Jacket with a hood for my granddaughters, me thinks, it would look fab in denim with a bright girly lining:)
ReplyDeleteDefinantly the tween seasons coat, with belt and smart collar! Well done on the patterns, they looks fabulous and arent you clever!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make the All Seasons Coat - swing style with a hood.
ReplyDeleteNikki - you are a legend for doing the next range of sizes (and so quickly!). I'd be happy for either the kids or the tween. I'm positive the swing coat could be unisex, and when it comes to giveaways I'm easily pleased!! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeletewow awesome good post fashion accessories related. I love read and suggestion our friends also.!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this pattern. Along with everyone else, I'd love tom ake one for myself, but in the meantime I'll make a Tween Seasons Coat for my eldest. The perfect wardrobe addition for these mild Gold Coast winters and for Spring.
ReplyDeleteLovin' your work Nikki :-)
Brilliant idea to upsize. I saw Lara's version for her little girl and just thought that it was a shame it isn't come in bigger sizes. Great work. There is a definite lack of good patterns in the 8-14 size.
ReplyDeleteI came over here after seeing Karen's version that she tested on her blog, And So I Sew. Love the pattern and the fact that you're drafting it in older girl sizes is wonderful! My oldest girl is 14 and finding patterns that fit and appeal to her is becoming harder and harder. If I won a copy, I'd choose the larger sizes and would have to sew up the view with a hood.;)
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern! I'd sew up a size 10 or 12 for my one of my older daughters.
ReplyDeleteHi Nikki, Loving your beautiful pattern and CAD skills! I'd love to sew up the Swing coat in a size 10-12 for a special Tween I know. Thanks, Monicatwilliamson@yahoo.com.au
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new pattern. I'm catching up on my blog reading tonight so have just seen Karen's with the Rapunzel fabric. Awesome. I like the colour and tie version - she's right it is like a cool trench coat for children!!!
ReplyDeleteMy girl is will be turning five soon - so I suppose the smaller version.
