Watcha Wearing Wednesday

I wish.... I've been drooling over my latest book purchases lately (I've linked to them on my sidebar widget).

And although I won't be strutting the streets of Brunswick in this gorgeous ensemblé...

I can't help but think that there may have been some sort of influence in my "oops, I've worn the wrong trousers to work" skirt-making session this morning.

There's a bit of bustle action going on there. I had to test an idea I've been tossing around for a while now - just to get it out of my head. It's still a hack-and-sew job, but with elastic thown in and a bit of slam-pressing. It really needs a run through the washing machine to settle the austrian-blind effect a bit.

(Message to my sewing buddy: We're really going to have to conference about who gets to wear what garment in which fabric at any given function...I think I did an accidental single-white-female thing... again)
.

Oh - and here's a top I'll no longer be wearing on Wednesdays....

When I first made this long tunic top, I thought I'd only get a few wears out of it before the lacy weave was covered with pulls and snags. Not to worry - it was a $5 remnant.

Then it shunk in the wash and became an interesting little drapy top.... and then a fitted top....

But after a wash in my new whizz-bang front loader.....

My girl will be wearing it from now on. I know how to get value out of a $5 scrap of fabric.

The lovely Fi (coincidentally in that picture of my back!) is the gracious and graceful host of WWW. Drop in and visit her here...

  1. Just so you know, there was a sharp intake of breath when I saw your skirt (seriously gorgeous) and a guffaw when I spotted the wee one in your $5 number (hilarious).

  3. You should see what my front loader did to a piece of wool felt! That remnant is having a pretty exciting life! I like the "Austrian blind effect" you've got going on there, although I would be a little uncomfortable with all the extra bulk, personally...

As for that tunic, it has taken on a life of its own! We'll be seeing on one of the wee girl's dolls next!

  13. When I saw your skirt, I immediately thought of "tuck and roll," but quickly realized that it is more along the lines of "ruch and roll :-)" Very creative!

  14. Wow!! I ADORE the skirt, gf. There are a few, very few, cool ruched (sp) skirts I could find online. Other interesting designs can be found at http://www.havensonline.com/shop/?v=7&sub=1 , I particularly love Neesh by D.A.R. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!!! Have you posted any details on how to make a skirt similar to the bustle one?

I LOVE to read your comments and they brighten my day. I can't respond unless your profile has an email address attached, though... And some days I simply don't have time to respond.... but I respond in a telepathic sort of way to each and every comment.
