Yesterday my creative space was going to be all about writing up a project for yet another deadline.
A trip to Officeworks in the morning resulted in the purchase of some fabric markers and a stroke of genius. My hobby-fill-obsessed child-of-an-artistic-bent would be occupied for HOURS while I was busy with my work.... She could make a calico doll!
Turns out she had plans for a production run.
I was kept busy at the sewing machine and slip-stitching station while she was in control of drawing and stuffing. We now have a family of calico dolls. And the wee girl is excited by her plans for us to "make clothes for them"....
Some days I have to just let go of plans and enjoy the moment - especially after a hectic few weeks. Recharge the creative batteries. Soak up my beautiful girl.
For more creative spaces (lots of!) pop in to visit Kirsty.
It looks like your beautiful gal has had lots of fun with those fabric markers. Enjoy, they grow up too fast!
ReplyDeleteKelly :-)
that's so precious - and you know, plans were made to be broken LOL
ReplyDeletethat was me...
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that you have to keep remnding yourself to slow down and enjoy those kids that are growing up so darn fast. I feel like I need to tattoo it on me.
ReplyDeleteThis is gold too, I can't wait to see those gorgeous clothes
What a lucky little girl to have lots of time to spend playing with her mum!
ReplyDeleteThose are fantabulous! A few months ago the kids and I did a similar craft... ours were 'Monsters" and wil make there way to the memorabilia bin once the kids get bored with them. They're a keep forever kinda thing. Enjoy making the clothes!
ReplyDeleteHow much much fun is that - it's genius Nikki! Do you do party plan??? Its even better than Build-A-Bear!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the things that I really admire about you. You know what's truly important, and what really matters.
ReplyDeleteYou must be the best mum EVER! That looks like so much fun. I can't wait to see the clothes your little one makes them!
ReplyDeleteYay for you! And Yay for the calico family! Imagine the stories that will go with them.

She's quite a talent that girls of yours, though I would have to say making clothes for some of her new friends may even stretch your pattern making skills, given the shape of some of their limbs!
ReplyDeleteoh they're gorgeous! What a creative girl you have there! xx
ReplyDeleteSometimes I get too caught up in having to meet my deadlines, and get all my stuff done, it takes me longer than a moment to remember that kids don't know or want or need or like deadlines (I don't like them either).
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful family - and they sure do need clothes..... maybe another day.
She's so clever. I love how keenly she's embracing the sewing machine. Absolutely ace!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Nikki!
One talented little girl you have there. She's following your creative footsteps, isn't she? :-) Cute dolls!
ReplyDeleteThis is too sweet!! You are a great creative mum... it's hard to not get creative with them sometimes...

You are so very correct with your "let go of theplans and enjoy the moment"...had you not...your wee girl and you would not have had such a great experience today creating this family of dolls. I do look forward to seeing how they will be dresssed! Peta
ReplyDeleteWow, clever little girl. Seriously cute dolls.
ReplyDeleteWhat very cool markers. They are on the shopping list.
ReplyDeleteI love that your girl's people are all different. A very true representation of the world!
That's so wonderful! Kids making their own little plushie toys. Super idea. That little one's taking right after her crafty mama. Love it.
