As the mother of a sewing studio kid, I've been LIVING for this stage of development...
It gave me the half-hour I needed to finish this large Wrap bag...
...with that o-ring variation I did on the Small Wrap. I used two XL o-rings on each side of the strap (and Ikea fabric).
So now I can show you the (Empress Woo by Robyn Pandolf) wrap I made on Saturday. ( I think I saw some of this beautiful fabric still at GJ's last week. I bought mine a while ago).
...with it's super-wide weight-distributing grown-on shoulder strap.
... And I HAVE to share a story - told to me by a grown-up only-child-of-a-seamstress. When she was a small child, the only child of a seamstress was kept busy with colour-sorting buttons ..and seed beads (!) while her mother worked.
Aah yes little assistants are so helpful at times !Great new bag too !
ReplyDeleteMy girls are all teenagers now -- 14 - 18, and their favourite thing used to be to come in and sort the button tin. They still talk about that.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this stage too. I still like to look through my mum's buttons. You don't think she is trying to keep me busy, do you?
ReplyDeleteWell done, Nikki!
ReplyDeleteGood idea, I'll not forget...
Hmmm, Nikki? Do you have plans to get the seed beads out and all mixed up??? Honestly now? But now that you mention it...
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing - give the girls buttons to sort while I sew! I bought some great novelty packs at Spotlight.
ReplyDeleteNikki, I love the Empress Woo print bag - its divine.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am planning a trip to Spotlight to buy an indutrial quantity of seed beads for my boys to sort for the next week!
I can get my friends 2 yr old to sort, but not my nearly 6 yr old. She'd do the seed beads, I think.
ReplyDeleteGreat bag!
Ha ha, can't wait til Little Jack is old enough for the very important job of sorting buttons. Right now he'd just swallow them.
ReplyDeleteButtons are sorted, wee girl is kept entertained, beautiful bags have been made and Mum is relaxed. Seems like a perfect situation to me!
ReplyDeletesounds like you have found a little gem! I remember my mum asking me if I wanted to sort the buttons - I remember it entertained me for hours! We had them all in little pretty glass jars (she still has them)
ReplyDeleteI have a horrible sinking feeling that my son would find some way to turn the buttons into missiles or weapons!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen his at that stage though I will certainly be giving it a go - you just never know. After all he did recently ask for a sewing machine for Christmas. Moment of HUGE delight for me, his mama.
The best toy that we EVER got Tori was a box of multicoloured buttons in various shapes and sizes. Keeps her entertained for hours, now she is counting and sorting them into colours - gold!
ReplyDeleteIf ever I needed some time to finish something in the kitchen I put my daughter into the high chair and sprinkled a few 100's & 1000's onto the try, it kept her occupied for a good 10 minutes or so!!
ReplyDeleteLove the blue bag
ReplyDeleteWhat little girl wouldn't love sorting seed beads ....but they'd have to beat me to the button box ...
ReplyDeleteThe Empress Woo bag is gorgeous . Congratulations !
