300th post... with thanks (and a giveaway).

Last night I was lucky enough to have been invited to a wonderful blogmeet organised by Lara. Great Thai food and warm conversation with like-minded souls and friends. I gabbled on about how wonderful blogging has been for me - the connections and friendships forged with wonderful people around the world - and very much in my own hometown (and it seems, particularly in the Northern suburbs of my home town!). I meant every word of it.

And so... on my 300th post (!!) I'd like to thank you for reading, for commenting, and for making me feel like what I do is worthwhile. I'd also like to thank you for your creativity and the inspiration you share with us all. The generosity of the craft-blogging community never ceases to astound me - and it warms my heart.

... and of course you want to know what the giveaway is.

I've mentioned secret patterns, mad deadline-bound writing, half-finished projects. This is one of them.... nearly finished. The finished Spec Case kit should be ready within two weeks.

If you'd like to win a kit hot off the press, leave a comment here with a short introduction to what your blog is about... sewing, crochet, family, food etc. Think of it as an opportunity to connect with a few more bloggers - introduce yourself to new friends at a virtual blogmeet! If you don't have a blog, you can write about the types of things you like to read about on blogs.

I'll random-number thingamy it when the kit is finished and ready for sale.

  1. Hi Nikki! Congrats on your 300th post. I myself am a real newbie at blogging, but I absolutely love it and my blog following list is getting longer and longer everyday - how will I fit time to do anything else!! But I find it all so inspirational and want to try everything I see. My blog is about me and my family and my crafting - which currently consists of my "Womb with a View" Baby Cocoons, but I am about to start some quilting and button making which I am very excited about. I would love to connect with others like you have been lucky enough to do, I have recently moved to Adelaide and feel a bit isolated down here so I am hoping there are some Adelaidian Bloggers out there! Anyway, great job again and come visit my blog!

  2. I blog a bit about garment sewing, a bit about quilting, a bit about vintage shoes, a bit about swing dancing, and a bit about my cats. Whatever I happen to be doing that day. :-)

  5. What an adorable case!

My blog is about me living my most happy life and trying to help other people live their most happy lives too. For me, it involves a lot of laughing, cooking, crafting and loving!

  6. I LOVE craft blogs, I get so many ideas and learn so much from them. I do have my own blog now, finally, but for now it's more of a family journal than a craft blog but I'm thinking about starting one of those too...

  7. Congratulations on the blogoversary! I don't have a blog but follow LOTS that are mostly about sewing, quilting, and projects of all sorts.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. Hi Nikki,
Congrats! My blog is a sort of diary of the things I make, plus a little look into all the things in my life which bring me joy and contentment. The fact that I haven't posted for a while does not mean I haven't made anything or had any joy, just that I have been really busy with those things and any spare time was spent lurking. ~Susan

  9. Congrats on 300 posts!! :) My blog is a big 'ol mish mash, because I do so much. So there's a little bit of sewing, some baking, scrapbooking every now and then, and lots of LOLcats :)

  10. Hi Nikki!
    Congratulations for the 300th post!
I live in Porto, Portugal. I'm grandmother (=avó in Portuguese) of the two most beautiful little girls in the world :) (yours is the third :))
My blog is about all kind of things I make with needles and threads. Sometimes I write about daily life!
And I write in (bad) English too!
Take a look - hope you understand my English...

  11. I recently starting reading your blog and enjoy it very much. I am a children's clothing pattern designer and blog mainly about what I'm sewing, my business, customer creations and a few other things that interest me. It's been fun meeting so many through blogs and email. Congratulations on your 300th post.

  12. My blog is mostly about my son & it's a shameless excuse for posting pictures of him every chance I get. Lately it's turning into more of my crafting blog - lots of my recent projects.

  13. 300 posts!! wonderful and the glasses case is fantastic. I actually have several blogs, one is mainly crafts, such as sewing a bit of miniature making as well as photos and digital scrapbooking. Then I have one for all my gluten free cooking and the third as a record of how our allotment (rented veg garden) is going.

  14. Congratulations on 300 posts! I recently celebrated my 100th post, so still a way to go for me! I want to thank you for posting so often, and interestingly, on your blog. I read your blog almost daily and especially enjoy your outings with the wee girl, your last-minute clothes sewing and best of all, I love reading about your blogger dinners, lunches and weekends away. I feel rather alone here in South Africa with no blogger friends that sew. I recently met two ladies from Cape Town that blog, but they knit and crochet only. Oh yes, I am supposed to talk about my blog! My blog is http://pinktulipza.blogspot.com and I blog about my sewing and other crafty adventures. My first love is sewing handbags, which is how I found you and ordered some of your patterns. I also dabble in crochet and felting a bit - bags again! I do sew clothes, blankets, cushions and whatever else takes my fancy to avoid hitting 500 handbags! (Where will I keep them?!) I also read Lara's blog regularly and wish I could be when you ladies meet. Maybe one day...In the meantime I "visit" you as often as I can and feel I "know" you. (I am not a stalker!) Here's to the next 100 posts on YouSewGirl!

  15. 300 posts. Wow. Congratulations! I started a blog a little while ago and 300 seems like a long time from now for me. On the other hand, I find that blogging can get rather addicting, especially with all those wonderful blogpeople in the world. I love reading and writing about sewing, crafting in general, family-life and beautiful photography.

I hope you'll ad another 300 posts and more to your wonderful blog!

  16. Love the case! And congrats on 300 posts. I started a blog a while ago, and then sort of let it slide, and then started a new one, about all things sewing, some things life, and whatever else seems to occupy me at any given moment (though it's mostly sewing!).

  20. Aloha, I'm Kristin in Hawai'i (though I am formerly of Germany and originally from California). My blog bounces between my journey as an artist, my love for crafting, and a healthy dose of travelogue. I have a Mailleau designed bag pattern that taunts me every day I don't get started on it. In the mean time, congrats on your 300th post and keep up the beautiful work!

  21. Hello Nikki,
Congratulations on the 300th post! My name is Chloe Patricia from Japan and I have started reading your blog recently. I find it very inspiring.
I am a Japanese silk stitched thimble maker and half of my blog is about the thimbles. I also post a few tutorials on making these silk beauties, too.
Virtual blogmeet is a great idea. I am going to visit everyone's blog now. Have a good day. Chloe Patricia

  24. Hi Nikki - Happy 300th - you don't look a bit over 280! Thankyou for your blog - my absolute favourite - thankyou for blogging frequently - don't know how you do it! Thankyou for sharing hints and tips, thanks for making fab bag patterns.

I am relatively new to blogging - I blog about sewing - whatever I'm sewing at that point in time. I teach sewing both in a high school and in my home based studio - and I just so happen to stock and teach Nicole's Patterns! I read blogs from all over the world - I'm not aware of other sewing bloggers in my area (Newcastle, NSW, Australia) but if you're out there let me know. I think that the sharing component on blogging is very powerful - I wonder if the "industry" is aware of the power of sewing blogs - especially the commercial pattern makers...? Great stuff! Cool spec case!

I'm part of a team blog from the northern suburbs of that very same home town. The blog is about quilters at the Sussex Neighbourhood House in Coburg. 33. Congratulations on 300 Nikki! It was a wonderful dinner the other night. (Mmmm, Thai food...!) I'm still dancing over the fact that the babe slept so well for me :)
My blog is sugarlemon, and it's so-called because I decided it was not just a stitching/craft blog, but more of an *everything* blog. I can't keep focused on one thing, and my blog reflects that - it's life/kids/craft, some sweet, some sour. I am a terribly infrequent blogger though; I admire those of you who manage to write interesting posts on a more regular basis.

  38. Hi Nikki,

I discovered your blog when I was searching for Aussie handbag-making supplies and I've been hooked ever since.

I'm quite new to the blogging world. My blog started late last year and I've found so many sources of inspiration since I began. My blog is mostly about my sewing/crafting. I make handbags, clothes, am just starting to do quilting, and bobbin lace (which I need to do more of very soon!)

Congratulations on your 300th post. Your blog keeps me coming back for more.

  41. Hi Nikki, I've been reading your blog for a while now, always something interesting to look at. I have two blogs, 'A House in the Country' is about my life, quilting, sewing, grandchildren and anything else I want to ramble on about really. The second 'The Cook' is about my kitchen happenings, cooking, grandchildren cooking (they cook, I don't cook them LOL) and some recipes. That's it really, I love blogging, it's opened up a whole new world of people, places and things.

I love your purses and this new one is lovely, keeping my fingers crossed for this one,

  47. Hi Nikki, Congratulations on your 300th post. I can't believe its been 300 posts, you know I have read them ALL? I originally started my blog so I could have a record of my sewing. It has ended up being so much more than that. I really had no idea how wonderful and generous people are with their praise, encouragement, free tutorials and giveaways. After subscribing to many blogs I find myself bursting with inspiration to do many things that I had never dreamed of before! Every sewist should have a blog.

  48. Hi Nikki, Congratulations on your 300th post!- Your bags designs and kits are just ace. I was looking at them yesterday thinking about Christmas gifts for the girls.. My blog "Pippiwillow" is mostly sewing -specifically with felt, needle felting etc. I prefer to work with natural fibres when creating things for kids and babes to play with, that said I am 'making friends' with my sewing machine and thinking about making my own "Nicole Mallalieu" bag. I am also new to blog land and find it simply amazing, encouraging and inspirational. Peta xo

I do sense the solidarity of you crafty blogging lot, which is pretty heart warming and brings hope I reckon- the generous bits of life. I live in an isolated location so feel some connection to like minded individuals by reading blogs. Blogs give me inspiration to go and do rather than just think about, also nice to hear bits of the life behind the designer/ sewer- not necessarily loads of details but the spirit of it all.
Best wishes and thanks for making bag making accessible.

  82. Hi and congratulations! Your blog is new to me, but I'm looking forward to browsing.

My blog is about the things I make(sew, knit, cook), the things I see, a little about where I live right now (India). It's a very new blog, and I'm just going to go where ever it takes me, really!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  83. I'm addicted to arts and craft blogs of many type - bag making obviously LOL, paper cutting, sewing, kids crafts and just about anything pretty. I love being inspired by the work of others and picking up tips and tricks from the tutorials to use within my own products.

I've been making gifts for family and friends for the first time in ages and I'm really loving being creative again.

Some other blogs I love make me laugh, like Cake Wrecks, or show me a life different to my own like Confessions of a Pioneer Woman.

I always look forward to your posts Nicole and looking at the great examples of things made with your patterns. Oh and getting exciting over new patterns coming ;-)

  88. Hi Nikki!
I love reading your blog, it reminds me there are other nutty people out there trying to juggle life with creative endeavours! My blog is www.retromodernwahine.blogspot.com
and is simply my thoughts, reflections, plans and dreams for my personal business Kiki von Tiki, apparel and accessories for retro-modern wahines! I'm making purses from tropical prints and vintage patterns. But also tiki skirts, cute retro tops, and (hopefully soon) girly rompers from 1040's patterns. Hope to see you there soon!

  89. Hi Nikki!
I love reading your blog. I read a lot of crafty blogs as inspiration for my own crafting, though I don't blog about crafting much. My blog is mostly about my life as an expat mother in Turkey. There's a little bit of environmental activism thrown in too.

  90. Congrats on your 300th post, Nikki!

I want to thank you for all the inspiration, clever tips and wonderful tutorials your blog provides - not forgetting the chance to get a glimpse of your life and your adventures (especially love those with your wee girl ;o)

My blog, sewmesomethinggood, is my virtual place to share my love of sewing. I love the domestic arts and I am happy to share the things I've learned. The projects I share often are made from scraps or repurposed thrift store finds. I also blog about other needlecrafts I enjoy and even some of my baking (my recipe collection almost rivals my fabric stash! ;o)

Making friends has to be the best part of blogging. Here's to you, Nikki!

  91. I was just thinking that I needed to make a case for my sunglasses! What perfect timing.
I started reading blogs about a year ago and began my own in October. I love being part of a wider community, being able to show what I have been working on and connecting with people around the world. Crafting is alive and well! I write about sewing, family life, gardening and whatever else takes my fancy.

  92. I love your work Nikki - I found you through the fabulous Lara because we are in a block swap together. My blog started when all I did was knit and crochet but now I sew and I love that too. I love being a small part of the inspirational blogging community.

  93. Congratulations Nikki! Can't wait to read the next 300 & more! Love the spectacle case- such a nice shape! I don't have a blog, but I wanted to say congratulations, though you have posted since!

  94. My blog is a little bit of everything, from sewing (almost exclusively purses!),to my life with Happy Hans the Traveling Salesmen. I always try to find a little humor in the things that life throws at me and I guess I look for blogs that do the same thing.

  95. Congratulations on your 300th post! Awesome. My daughter and I have a blog about sewing and the business of sewing and crafting. We've been blogging for over a year and love it.

  96. Congrats on 300 posts! I love your patterns (and supplies too!). On my blog I have well, a bit of everything. Family, sewing, handful of quilts and the occcasional attempt at knitting. Mostly things for my two kids. I love the blogging community and have been blogging and sewing for just over a year now.

  97. I don't have a blog where I actually post. I have set it up but I just don't have the photography skills I feel like I need. I absolutely love reading blogs where I learn something new whether it is a pattern or even just something I didn't know before. I get lost just reading one blog and then checking out the blogs from peoples lists they follow. It's no wonder I never post. I'm too busy surfing :)

  100. This is about comment 300 so that is appropriate.
I blog about textile arty stuff, but also sewing, among other things, bags; my latest trip to Sydney and all the design inspiration I got there; exhibitions I've enjoyed; embroidery; ATC swaps; philosophic meanderings; that pretty much covers everything.
    Cheers

  101. I started my blog as a crafting blog--specifically sewing--but it's kind of a modge podge of sewing, mentions of knitting here and there, photos, and recipes. I really should try and focus on one thing...

  102. Nikki!!! You have oudone yourself on this one. I LOVE the structure of this purse. It's probably quite tricky (for me) but I will definately be getting this pattern. It will be worth the challenge, I can't wait. Maria D.

  103. 300 posts - gosh!

Nikki, you have quite the following on your blog, judging from all these comments!

I credit you with sparking my interesting in sewing and bag-making. I was looking for some patterns and tutorials online one day and did a bit of a google search - voila! There you were. I must say it's been extremely helpful and it was exactly what I was looking for. The class I did with you was really fantastic and I haven't stopped sewing bags since. So thankyou for everything you do!

As for my blog, well I'm very much new to it. I have only 2 posts so far, so it'll be a long time till I make 300. I plan to make my blog about me learning to sew as well as bits and pieces about my life along the way. It's a bit basic at the moment - I need to get a pretty banner and include lots of photos (I need to improve my photography skills first).

Things I enjoy about other people's blogs are tips and tutorials, but also the bits about life in general. It's nice when blogs are a bit personal and you feel like you're getting to know someone.

    Congratulations and keep on blogging!

  104. Hi Nikki, Congrats on your 300th post. I have been reading your blog for a while and its one of my favourites..so thanks for sharing! I blog about sewing, mainly for my kids and family life in general.

  105. Congrats on the 300th post Nikki, gosh that came around quickly. I 'almost' have a blog so for the moment I still fall into the reader not blogger category. I mostly read crafty type stuff with the odd bit of cooking & literature thrown in. fave things are tutorials, new ways of doing things, and those images and projects that you tend to come across in the blog world that plant a seed of an idea. I also love following blog trails, eg, someone makes something inspired by someone elses blog who was inspired by someone else etc. The whole evolution of ideas thing.

  106. First time on your blog, oving it. Conratulations on your 300 th post.

  108. Wow, what a great idea to learn more about blogs I (and others) wouldn't otherwise find! My blog is about my kids - we have lots of friends and family overseas, so it's a good way for them to feel like they know the kids a little bit. I try to make it funny, when I can. I've "met" some lovely Mums through comments on my blog and reading others.
I love to quilt and knit, but I don't blog about it (because that would cut into my crafting time which is precious little as it is!).

  109. Congrats on 300 posts :D I have quite a way to get there yet. I blog about my crafts that I do. I lovce soooo many that I thought I would keep track of what I get up to and then I feel like I am actually getting some done ;) My favourites are sewing softires, crochet and sewing in general :)

  113. Hi Nikki,

I'm not a blogger as I find myself spending loads of time reading other people's blogs. I especially love to read sewing blogs. It gives me such inspiration and I love to see all the beautiful fabrics people choose for their projects.

Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on your 300th!

  115. Well done on 300th post - it is always fun reading your blog and seeing what you have designed next! My blog is Whippet Good - based on an old love of retro band Devo and our much adored family dog!
Quilting and op-shopping would have to be my thing, with a little bit of cake to sweeten my day. I like to think that I just 'whip-up' my projects with ease, but usually there is struggle along with the joy lol!

My blog is a little bit of sewing, a little bit of brooch-making, some favourite tunes and happy thoughts.
I lost my sunglasses case on the weekend and my sunnies are already scratched, so come on random number thingy, pick me!

  119. I've been blogging for 5 years (on and off) and I love the random connections that you make as a result. I've met some wonderful people from nearby and far away and find blogging to be a great way to find inspiration and to be spurred on by like minded people. I blog about my artwork and creative pursuits, I blog about my house that I'm building. I use my blog to share my life with my family on the other side of the country and the other side of the world as well as a means to discovering more about myself. Having said that, blogging is also a great time waster and many many hours have been spent lost in blogs, skipping from blog to blog - I love it!!

  120. Nikki, thank you for sharing on your blog, you are very talented! I have just started blogging, mainly to keep connected with family and friends who are far away. Finding time to do it is another thing.

  121. Hi Nikki! Just getting in on your giveaway at the last breath. Have just caught up on your blog having been away for a bit. So sorry to hear about the fedora theft - makes you mad doesn't it?! But so pleased to hear you have beautiful friends like Cathy to rise above the ordinary & help you forget the disappointments in life. My blog is all about my stitching & gardening exploits. the wonderful people I have 'met' through my blog inspire me every day. It motivates me to keep creating & convinces me that the 'good people' far outweigh the bad out there. Best wishes, Ros.

  123. Nikki, Congratulations on your 300th post! :-) Your blog is a favourite of mine. Your work is very inspiring and just makes me feel all yummy inside with creative possibility. My blog is a sort of chronicle of my life. I use it to record my craft/artwork ideas and projects, connect up with other crafters and also to talk about my journey in parenthood. My goal is to set up my own little online shop one day. :-)

  124. I just started my blog and it is mainly to connect with people overseas who have viewed my country not in a very rosy light upto now. Hope to change that view even a wee bit!!!! Your blog is so very interesting apart from being innovative and colorful and useful! please count me in.

  125. Hi Nikki, my name is Michelle and I am from Northern Suburbs Melbourne. I came across your beautiful bags and patterns and the Stitches and Craft show at the showgrounds earlier this year. Since then I have become addicted to buying your patterns and visiting your blog. Your patterns are made to perfection and the instructions are so precise but easy to follow. I used to love to scrapbook but now am addicted to sewing. I work at Spotlight so I get to look at fabrics all day. Thank you for this great little blog...I love it!!!

I LOVE to read your comments and they brighten my day. I can't respond unless your profile has an email address attached, though... And some days I simply don't have time to respond.... but I respond in a telepathic sort of way to each and every comment.
