I've made classic leathergoods....
Once I even sewed together the largest inflatable float in the world (at the time, at least). It lead the St Patricks Day parade in Dublin in the Millenium year.
NOTE: I didn't DESIGN it - I only did the stitching. However - there was QUITE a lot of stitching in it - those are MEN standing in front of it and there's a truck underneath it...
..and four trailers behind it.
Today I couldn't seem to sew TWO little hats.
Seams cracked, interfacing bubbled, three-year-olds interrupted.... but I perservered. Finally (LONG after the three-year-old should have been home and eating her not-yet-overcooked lasagne for dinner) I finished. I'd double-stitched and topstitched and pressed....
Then I looked..... at the brim that was sewn on back-to-front.
Hehe oh no! Some days you just need to call it quits and go for a cup of tea followed by a nanna nap. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only person who does that! I generally put down my tools and call it a night (or a day) when that happens. The universe is telling me that I need to take a rest! The other thing I do it put the offending project into my unstitch bag (solitary confinement) for unstitching at a later date and I generally start again.
ReplyDeleteOh good lord! Perhaps it could be a new trend? Backward facing hats? Can you embellish it to look good? Surely clever Nikki could do such a thing, you can make dragons!!
ReplyDeleteps hope the lasagne was nice. :)
I know those days ... mine are usually after a full days work and desperate to do just a tiny bit of sewing..
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad you're not my surgeon!
ReplyDeleteSome days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed! Better luck next time!
ReplyDeleteI've done things like that, and figure God is telling me to leave
ReplyDeletesewing machine and go out and work
in garden. Digging in his earth
refreshes my mind, and after an hour
or so, I can go back to sewing
refreshed. ( But I don't have a 3 yr. old under my feet) Don't know how you do it.
Dot, Dot's Needle USA
Oh no! What a disaster after all of that hard work.
ReplyDeleteHa! I know exactly what you mean! When I make a mistake like that, it's the God Of Sewing telling me to give it a rest for a while because I'm tired.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the leather satchel. You wouldn't want to sell that to me, would you, wheedle wheedle??
Hysterical post Nikki.
ReplyDeletetake a break, start again- you are permitted three swear words, one foot stop and one extra loud sigh!
You made me laugh Nikki... with you, not at you! Maybe a walk to the coffee shop to sit and drink a coffee made by someone else is needed.
ReplyDeleteYes, some days are not for sewing - that's when I call it quits and come back the next day.
ReplyDeleteBTW, wow!!! That's some amazing stuff you've sewn - that float? Fantastic. Leather goods? I'm envious!
Oh boy, you poor thing. I've had days like that and I'd wished I'd just stayed in bed....
ReplyDeleteOMG! All in the first week of the holidays too! The 3 yr olds get even more annoying by the second week!! lol I think a tea party is in order???...........or a nanny while on holiday in a tropical location holding a strawberry daiquiri! (hmmmmm, way too much thought has gone into that one, go and sew something!)
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I have done that more than once. I once had to remove the CENTER square from a quilt that was already topstitched as I had sewn it in upside down. Love those days.....
ReplyDeleteIsn't it frustrating?! We all have days like that though. Good to know you are not alone. Tomorrow will be better!
ReplyDelete(That was a lot of sewing!)
Yep, some days you just need to walk away and sit back with a BIG glass of red wine....
ReplyDeleteOh and that dragon is brilliant!
How impressive Nikki! Your sewing adventures never cease to amaze me :)
ReplyDeleteFirst off, can I tell you that I think your sewing skills are amazing?
ReplyDeleteSecondly, you are not alone in having days where no matter how hard you try, it ends up being more productive to just step away from the machine. LOL
