Apparently leggings and little dresses are the only things worth wearing these days.
The five pairs of Dortje cords that I was encouraged to make have been washed (not ironed) and bundled up to be passed on to a kid who'll appreciate them.
I'm trying hard not to take it personally.

ReplyDeleteOh, its sad. Maya is the other way around and doesn't ever want to give anything away. I need to sneak in and take the outgrown clothes to her cousins. Amazing how much longer the handmade clothes last though ..

ReplyDeleteSome kids huh! I think you will have added to the situation by teaching her about art and craft too. She probably has a very firm idea of what she really likes so she's no pushover. I remember working on a little padded outfit for my then 1 1/2 year old. She completely hated the time I spent on the machine and refused to wear it. Because our town was desperately cold and it was the warmest set of clothes she had I had to hold her down and force her in. But you definitely can't do that to your miss. Cherrie

ReplyDeleteThose cords look amazing. I was pretty shocked that my 'farm girl' of shorts and t-shirt fame was recently keen on a dress. I remember doing the same to my mum, so I wont hassle the young 'un!

I'm gonna miss seeing those groovy pants at kinder! I must say though Nikki, I think either 3/4 leggings or bike shorts are the go, the little munchkin is forever rolling them up to the point it looks like she is not wearing anything under her dress!

ReplyDeleteI don´t like pink, but still had to wear (if only less often) a dress that a friend of mom made for me when i was that age, I knew how hard she had worked as my mom clearly explained it...
I make things for my nieces, and they know they are specially made for them and accept them gratefully... If they didn´t I can rely on my sis-in law (who comes from a place where need is real)to explains what happens in the other "half" of the world...
If you respect her so much, she should do the same... so maybe she can work with you next time!
For all that is worth I think they are lovely!

ReplyDeleteI only wish she would do comfy leggings over dresses, but she declares that's not the way to do it (and it's not comfortable either.. hurts her tummy even though they're so loose she has to hold them up).
oh golly - I am dreading the day she's 12 and wants to go out dressed in something up to her belly-button. {here's hoping fashion has changed since then, or it's long enough that I finally have some influence over her}.
Girls, who'd have them, hey! My son will mostly wear anything I give him, with pride, but no fuss.
There's a lucky little girl to be receiving that collection of beautiful pieces. I can't believe you're so easily handing them away.
I feel your pain, i have one who will wear the skirts i make and one who won't :too long' she says ??? at 6 years... oh well i am loving dressing up the 3 yold whilst i can then i will move on to the neices !
ReplyDeleteI truly feel for you, as the same has happened here and I have to admit it caused me a lot more upset than it did her! After numerous rejections - even of things she specifically requested and chose the fabric for - I vowed I wouldn't sew clothes for her again. It's all jeans and leggings now. I admire her independence and personal style, but hoped I'd have some influence for a little longer!

Thanks for the heads up! I think I'll stick to making pinnies that morph into tunics, and continue to stock up on cheap leggings and tees for underneath! Little Miss is barely 18 months old, but she IS a Little Miss! My nieces will only wear pink, and already I am noticing that a certain little eye is being drawn towards all things musk-stick coloured! Fortunately for me, it makes a nice change after having 2 boys :)
