Where did I go wrong...?

Was it when I bought a cheap, conveniently flat-packed IKEA bookshelf instead of a sturdy (if a little difficult to carry in a small car or up four flights of stairs) solid wooden one...?





...Or was it when I kept shoving more and more big, heavy craft books into the flimsy shelves?



Or was it when I tried to move the bookshelf with only the top and bottom shelves emptied?  (READ: with the middle two shelves overstuffed with heavy craft books).



How was I to know that bookshelves could just EXPLODE like that...?

    last year almost happened the same here - before the shelf exploded she sent us a signal throwing down a lot of books! it's a lot of work...

    It's probably a good thing it's a cheap Ikea bookshelf if you're going to be moving it around without taking all the books out! I hope you and your books are okay.

    Oh the humanity & to have to replace the book shelf AS WELL as putting all the books somewhere. I have a similiar cheap but handy book shelf which i can no longer access as my husband dumped a 3 draw filing cabinette in the front of it?? Um, clearly he didn't think i needed anything from the book case?? At least when it collapses, it will be held up by 1000kg of steel. Love Posie

    A good time to rediscover those books you forgot you had. BTW....Nikki, what is the name of the (probably) Japanese pattern book in the 1st and 2nd photos with the gorgeous flowing, twisted top on the back cover? It looks gorgeous....and I have to track it down!!!
    Hope the clean up didn't take long!

    Oh dear, we have some of those cheap flat-packed book cases as well.....might need to review the amount on them.

    uh oh I think I have 2 of them in my craft room and the shelves are starting to bow a little !!!!!!

    I have just cleared 3 huge piles out of books to go on ebay so hopefully they won't fall everywhere!

    hope nothing precious was damaged! and at least no one humans were hurt!!!

    I also love books and I suppose not many bookcases can support our craft addictions! I have had to split my collection up and store them in different areas for safety sake!
