Downtime

My post-Quilt-Show week has been spent coughing, sneezing, aching and feeling a bit sorry for myself. I've stayed home from work a lot - taking the rare opportunity when there's nothing scheduled that needs my immediate attention.

I took my machine and a bunch of fabrics home, to work through a few felted-knit ideas I've had floating about in my head. I ended up getting so frustrated that I forgot to bring home my favourite tools (ahem... and fabric scissors and pins) that I started a lot and didn't finish anything.

I tried writing workshop notes and pattern instructions, but my brain was too fuzzy with winter lurgies and ... well, I just feel exhausted. I can't write. I can barely think.

Today around lunchtime, I came home from a brief visit to the office and pulled out the knitting machine. I popped on a dvd of costume dramas (both Elizabeth movies) and spent the afternoon practising knitting short rows and getting lost in 16th Century royal court costumes. And I wished I'd been doing this all week (... I might even have finished something photogenic enough to share on this blog).

Sorry to hear you're unwell. I hope you are feeling better soon. I hope you got to experience some of the lovely weather we've been having this week - that's got to help banish the lurgies.

You sure deserve some time out. Ditto, i'm doing as little as possible this weekend as i'm exhausted with no let up in sight, so will take the opportunities when they come, like a weekend with only one party pick up (even if it is 4 children i'm picking up) & resting. I can't crack now, 18 months into 4 years of my husband living interstate, deep breaths, for both of us, love Posie

your body is trying to tell you something. You aren't supposed to work when you are OFF ILL!

Feel better soon. I'm fighting off a sore throat myself hopefully it will stay away another 24 hours as I have a teaching gig tomorrow then I can collapse in a heap. Love what you have done even if it isn't finished it is looking good.

I'm giving you orders to continue doing exactly as you did yesterday. Lots of movies with gorgeous costuming and rest on the couch. Make sure the wee one and your man go out and do things. You've earnt it!

I hope you are feeling better soon, Nikki. But take the chance to potter while you can.

Sounds like an almost perfect afternoon (if it was lurgy-free, it would be perfect)

You know the words of The Gambler are never, ever far from my mind. Mostly the chorus. Though I reckon you got that bit with the knitting machine and costume drama entirely right - and without the help of Kenny Rogers...

Sometimes these lurgies are a none-too-subtle way of making us stop and rest, it's just a pain that the creative urge suffers as well!

Hope you're feeling better soon. :-)
