Meet the new girls....

I'm in the final editing stages of the instructions for the new purse... getting ready for the final round of pattern-testing (yes, I test and edit and re-test...).
It's a versatile little purse, with the options of a smooth, gathered or pleated finish. It can sit flat like a fan or rounded and barrel-like. It has a 100mm (4") frame but is roomy enough to carry all you need for a special occasion (or coffee date).

You can also choose to add (a rouleaux or flat) wrist strap or handle and there are even instructions for making the strap detachable. The possiblilities for variation are endless and the design is multi-purpose.
I'll introduce you to my crew.
Meet the wedding girls..... all silk and stylish simplicity. The cute and clever crafty chicks.... in a colourful splash of quilting cotton.
The uber-cool urban gals in sleek designer silk satin.

And the school formal (prom/debutante) girls, having a riot in a bit of polyester razzle-dazzle.

Now.... what do you think I'm going to call this pattern? As always, I've chosen a state-the-bleeding-obvious single word title for this one. And - as nearly always - I'm running a giveaway to launch it.
Leave a comment with what you think the name is and you might just win a copy of the pattern when we launch it. I'm sure that more than one person will guess the name, so I'll random-number pick a winner from all correct entries. GOOD LUCK!
*****
Did you know that I give my patterns very basic, descriptive names so that you can impose your own personality and designs on them? I read a comment on a blog once that criticised the lack of flair in my naming of the "200mm Square Frame Purse" and it made me realise that people don't get it.... I leave the space blank so you can fill it with your imagination.

I am always bemused by what people find to have a snark about! Anyway, silly snarkiness aside, I would like to dub this purse the Tardis, because it looks like it is probably bigger-on-the-inside ;-)

I think that the new girls on the block are rather swish so I guess I'd vote for the Swish purse. Cute!

Melanie said...

Oh wait, we were actually supposed to guess the *correct* answer?! Oh, well in that case, I don't know. I was going to go for 'Fan', but you already have a bag by that name. What about 'Roomy'?

Allison said...

I was going to say "swish" too.

But Tas beat me to it, it seems.

Another one I thought of was the "Glamour."

You're so clever.

I'm thinking its the "Versatile" bag. And I love it! So many options in this one :)

quilary said...

You wouldn't call it the 100mm pleat purse would you?

Nikki,
I was just wondering if you ever need pattern testers. I would love to help if you are looking. This purse looks so fun.

Oh now I was thinking one word could be Roomy... it is pretty

They are gorgeous Nikki. Looking forward to making one. Love the Craft Chicks - but the silk versions are truly outstanding. (Hoping the Sarah Arnett yardage comes to pass).
I'm guessing the 100mm Pleated Purse.
Regards,
Alison

Hmmm I'm guessing the "Versatile" purse? But whatever you call it I love it :)

I have no idea how about "elegant" purse. I have to have one by the way they are lovely in all their incantations

omg they are gorgeous. I do so love the wedding purses. I'd say "Everything You Want(me to be)". hehehh

I was going to say the name was
"It's a Snap" but then realized you said it was a one word name and now I am stumped. At any rate, it is adorable. I really like the pleats/gathers.

Sew-4-Fun said...

I'm sure this isn't the name :) , but as soon as I saw the purse I thought "The Winslet". As in Kate Winslet from Titanic. I can see every lady on the Titanic carrying it. :) What ever you call it, it's a gorgeous purse/bag.

Cath @ chunkychooky said...

Hmmmmm ruched purse?

have I spelt that right? ( yes, I just googled it)

Serena said...

The Pleated Purse? Though, the guesses of Versatile Purse above are very good, too, I think.

Whatever the name, it's simply gorgeous!

nicole said...

the glamorous clutch? love it's different looks by the way :D

Kate said...

I LOVE it Nikki!
I can't seem to think right now of any other name than The Versatile Purse.
And if you need a tester I would clear my schedule for that little beauty...hey that could be a great name too. XX

How about the'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' purse.

It looks mavellously adaptable. Therefore I can't think of just one word that could describe it.

Possibility purse?

Penny said...

This is great. I'd love to win the givaway because I'm not allowed to buy any more purse or bag patterns 'till I make up the ones I've already ordered!!!
I was thinking it would be called the "100mm clutch purse" but that was three words, so then I thought perhaps the "roomy purse". But that was two words. So what about "purse"?
Penny.

Nikki said...

Ok... obviously my choice of name is not as state-the-bleeding-obvious as I thought.

Think single word snappy name, like my other patterns- SNAP, PUFF, KISS, POPPET, BARREL, FAN, MOD.... and look at the shape of the purse.

All my patterns are versatile, so I'm not going to name only one of them as such. :)

Jennie said...

I'm gonna guess Ball Purse.

My faves are the polyester school formal purses - I would have loved one of those in the same fabric as my dress! Back in my country town my dressmaker charged $60 to make my valedictory dress. When I saw her a couple years ago I apologised for having paid her so little.

A Spoonful Of Sugar said...

Another great design Nikki! It looks like CLAM or SHELL to me:)

Annie said...

I'm going for The Winslet - thought that was a fab name. Hoping this is the testing that's coming.

Lexie said...

I also think maybe the "shell" purse??? Gorgeous anyways! Well done.

Josh and Kirrily said...

I'll take a punt on PEARL. Very cure bag - I love the bag in silk, but would be far too scared to make it. Luckily its cute in quilting fabric as well - go GJ's!

Fiona said...

What a beautiful purse - I like all the variations. I'm no good at names - so I'll pass on guessing what it might be!!

Louise said...

Could it be Oyster? Whatever the name I am absolutely loving them.

Aussie Jo said...

Have to be '100mm curved frame purse'!!
I love the Asymmetrical pleating look on some of them, gorgeous.

Aussie Jo said...

I'd actually call it the 'chubby'.
It's kinda like those gorgeous chubby cheeks toddler's have

Fer said...

Hmmm... the 'versatile' purse?

Paula said...

Pleated Poof

Jenny from Ohjoh said...

The pleated pocket???
(although I like Melanie's "Tardis")

CurlyPops said...

I like all the guesses. What fun!

Kathy P said...

How about Oyster, or Scallop, or Shell? The shape of the bag makes me think of sea shells. Love the little pleats in it!

Gill said...

Prom??
Versatile??
or simply Gorgeous!!

Jenni said...

How about..."Perfect"

Love to Stitch said...

The clutch purse? or maybe the puffy bag?

Vintage Grrl said...

Hey Nikki! I am LOVING this design! (I'm all about pleats right now). Given the tremendously different looks you can get with this pattern with just a fold of fabric, I'm putting forward...

"The Pleat or Pouffe Purse"

Tammy said...

I love this! I'll stick with' Versatile' as its one word name :)

Kathy P said...

How about "Dimple"? That's what I think of when I look at the corners of the bag - like dimples beside a smile :)

Penny said...

Ok, I'll try again: "Clam", as in rhymes with "glam".
But I also love the name Annie suggested "Winslet".

Leanne said...

Isn't that funny.... Amanda and I are friends and I thought "elegance"

KathyB said...

Hi Nikki, I'm going the Glam Purse, it is looks to be an every occasion purse.

Anne said...

Love all of the style variations. Maybe the name is "Bubble" bag.

Leisurely Lesley said...

Definitely CLAM purse. It's the only thing I can think of that is the bleeding obvious. Great design.

Michelle said...

Gorgeous! I'm heading out to an engagement party tomorrow night and I'd be the talk of the party with this 'shell' bag over my shoulder or on the wrist!!!! Will have to make this one for sure. So lovely.

Toncas Travels said...

This looks like a neat purse for me to take to my son's wedding in 5 weeks time. I think it is called the Clam purse which I know others have already said.

Jan said...

Hi, lovely versatile purse and i would name it either "DIVA DAZE" or "GLAM GIRL". It has a lovely old movie star look to it, hence my names! cheers, jan

maxine said...

I'm going to guess "clam" or "shell" purse, though I also like to combine the two for "clamshell". Whatever the name it is simply stunning. Well done! Gosh I'd love to win this...

Joy said...

"100mm Pleated Glam Purse" is my choice for a name. It looks very versatile and oh so chic just love it

Lucy said...

I love the versatility of the looks you have created with this pattern. I think you are going to call it something like MULTIPURPOSE Purse.

Cheers,
Lucy

Unknown said...

Hi Nikki, love it love it. It can be glam, chic, stylish - whatever you want to be for the occasion. I'm trying to read your mind and it's hard! My choice name for this purse? SWIRL
Hope to win it but still love it even if I don't.

Anonymous said...

'versatile' purse. whether i win or not i intend to have and hold one of these beauties!

thanks Nikki

Melanie said...

Ok, well when you put it that way Nikki, and looking at that pearl shot, I'm guessing your 'bleeding-obvious' name is the OYSTER purse?! :-)

Lucy said...

This is definitely one of these comps that will have us tearing our hair out after we hear the selected name of the pattern. I concur that some of the suggested names are suitable, but if I had to think of another name then it would be - 100mm Elegant purse *we could substitute 100% for the 100mm - LOL.

Cheers,
Lucy

Linda Robertus said...

This must be the Shell Purse!

Bree said...

The 'Versatile Purse'??

tartankiwi said...

Hmmm... could it be Clam?

Cathie said...

i was going to be boring & say it's a 100mm purse but I wish it was called "my purse" because I love it Nikki ♥

Ady said...

How about the Capaciously Chic purse? Gorgeous purses!!

Unknown said...

I'm thinking it might be called the Clamshell purse? I do like the different looks it gets by using the different fabrics.

Unknown said...

...or on second thoughts, Clamshell is probably a bit big. Clammy is probably more your style, and with the weather lately hahahaha!

Its probably more likely you have gone with just Clam or Shell. I like the sound of The Shell Purse.

Nikki said...

Ok... it's up on the website and the name is public now. It's the SHELL purse.

No more "guesses" now, thanks... I'll draw the winner in a minute!

pbach1 said...

i'm sure you've already named it, but "puddle" seems appropriate, as it looks like it puddles into its space when it's set down. adorable purse, btw!
